Guide and Virtual Tour of The Lake District: Ullswater from the North.
Panorama | Review | Map
Pooley Bridge is situated at the north of Ullswater. A steamer travels the seven and a half mile long lake south to Glenridding. There are magnificent mountains on either side of the valley: Helvellyn dominates the mountain scenery to the west of the lake and Caudale Moor to the east. Ullswater is one of the quiter of the large lakes, since it is a bit trickier to reach! However, its beauty rewards those who have made the effort.
There is a popular YHA here at Patterdale and plenty of places to camp and caravan along the Ullswater valley.
Aira Force, a spectacular waterfall is worth a visit in this area: 60 feet in height and a short walk from the car park.
