Guide and Virtual Tour of The Lake District: Kirkstone Pass.
Panorama | Review | Map
The road from Ambleside over to Ullswater takes you over Kirkstone Pass, between the mountain of Red Screes to the west and Caudale Moor to the east. At the pub at the top of the Pass is the Kirkstone Pass Inn, one of the highest in England. The fantastic views from here are down to Brothers Water in the North.
Further along the valley, you reach Patterdale and Glenridding, at the head of Ullswater. A steamer travels on the seven and a half mile long lake to Pooley Bridge in the north. Helvellyn dominates the mountain scenery to the west of the lake.
Aira Force, a spectacular waterfall is worth a visit in this area: 60 feet in height and a short walk from the car park.
