Guide and Virtual Tour of The Lake District: Ashness Bridge.
Panorama | Review | Map
This popular beauty spot can be found at the top of a tiny, steep country lane above the Borrowdale valley. There are fantastic views of Derwentwater from here, but unfortunately, every photographer in the Lake District knows it. Getting the place to yourself for more than a couple of seconds is an art form in itself.
If you manage to park close to the packhorse bridge, we would recommend walking through Ashness Woods (look out for the red squirrels!) to Surprise View. This is a fantastic viewing spot, perched on the edge of a cliff, where you can see over to Derwent water and beyond to Skiddaw and the northerly lake of Bassenthwaite.
